Responsible gaming
Gambling is a paid form of entertainment. Every game in our catalogue is built with a house edge, which means that over a long enough series of bets the expected outcome is a loss. This document describes the tools we provide to keep that cost within limits you have chosen in advance, the circumstances in which we restrict an account ourselves, and the independent organisations that offer help at no charge.
Limit tools
Four limits are available in the Responsible gaming section of the account. They may be set at any time, including before the first deposit, and they operate independently of one another. A reduction takes effect immediately. An increase or removal is held for 24 hours before it applies, so a decision taken during a session cannot alter that session.
| Tool | What it caps | Periods available | Effect of a change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Total paid into the account | Day, week, month | Reduction instant, increase after 24 hours |
| Loss limit | Stakes minus returns over the period | Day, week, month | Reduction instant, increase after 24 hours |
| Stake limit | Maximum bet per spin or round | Per bet | Reduction instant, increase after 24 hours |
| Session limit | Continuous time logged in | 15 minutes to 5 hours | Applies from the next session |
| Reality check | Reminder of elapsed time and net result | Every 15, 30 or 60 minutes | Immediate |
| Time-out | Temporary block on play and deposits | 24 hours, 7, 14 or 30 days | Immediate, cannot be lifted early |
When a limit is reached, deposits or bets are declined until the period resets. The balance already in the account stays accessible for withdrawal — a limit restricts spending, never your own money. Support cannot override an active limit on request, and an agent who is asked to do so will explain the cooling-off rule rather than make an exception.
Self-exclusion
Self-exclusion closes access to play and to deposits for a fixed term. It is requested from the account or through support, takes effect within 24 hours of confirmation, and cannot be reversed before the term ends by any means, including a new request from you.
- Six months. The shortest term. Marketing messages stop and the account is hidden from the lobby.
- One year. The most common choice where a break has already been tried and did not hold.
- Five years. Applied when a shorter exclusion has been broken by opening a second account.
- Permanent. Irreversible closure. The account cannot be reopened and no future registration under the same identity will be accepted.
Any balance held at the moment of exclusion is paid out to a verified method; verification documents may still be requested for that payment, because the legal obligation to identify the recipient survives the closure. Bonuses, free spins and unfinished play-through are cancelled without compensation. Attempting to register again during an exclusion is a breach of the terms, and any resulting winnings are void while the deposits are returned.
Warning signs
Problem gambling develops gradually and is easier to recognise from behaviour than from the amounts involved. The following patterns are the ones most often reported by people who later sought help.
- Playing longer or for larger amounts than intended, repeatedly.
- Depositing again immediately after a loss in order to recover it.
- Borrowing money, selling possessions or using funds set aside for bills to gamble.
- Hiding the extent of play from family, or lying about time and money spent.
- Losing interest in work, study, sleep or activities that previously mattered.
- Feeling irritable or anxious when unable to play.
- Gambling to escape stress, loneliness or low mood rather than for entertainment.
- Believing that a win is due after a run of losses.
Self-assessment
Answer the questions below honestly and count the number of yes answers. This is an informal screen, not a diagnosis, and it does not replace advice from a qualified counsellor.
- Have you bet more than you could really afford to lose in the past twelve months?
- Have you needed to gamble with larger amounts to get the same excitement?
- Have you returned another day to win back money you lost?
- Have you borrowed money or sold anything to fund gambling?
- Have you felt that you might have a problem with gambling?
- Has gambling caused you health problems, including stress or anxiety?
- Have people criticised your betting or told you that you had a problem?
- Has gambling caused financial difficulty for you or your household?
- Have you felt guilty about the way you gamble or what happens when you gamble?
One or two yes answers suggest setting a deposit limit and reviewing it monthly. Three or more suggest a time-out and a conversation with one of the services below. If the answer to the last question is yes on its own, that is reason enough to contact them.
Where to get help
The organisations listed here are independent of us. Their services are free and confidential, and none of them require you to close an account before speaking to them.
| Organisation | What it offers |
|---|---|
| Gambling Help Online (Australia) | Counselling, online chat and self-help programmes for players and for family members. |
| GamCare | Helpline, live chat, forums and structured treatment referrals. |
| BeGambleAware | Advice, self-assessment tools and directories of local support. |
| Gambling Therapy | Multilingual online support groups and one-to-one sessions. |
| Gamblers Anonymous | Peer support meetings, held in person and online. |
We do not publish helpline telephone numbers on this page, because a number that has changed is worse than no number at all. Each organisation lists its current contact details on its own site. Financial counselling is worth arranging in parallel where debts have accumulated; it is separate from gambling support and is also available at no cost in Australia.
Protection of minors
Registration is restricted to people aged 18 or over. Age is checked against the identity document supplied at verification, and an account found to belong to a minor is closed immediately: stakes are refunded, and any winnings are cancelled without exception.
If a household device is shared with children, install blocking software as well as relying on our controls. Net Nanny, Qustodio and Kaspersky Safe Kids all restrict gambling sites at operating-system level, and the parental controls built into iOS Screen Time and Google Family Link do the same on a phone. Keep payment cards and banking credentials out of stored browser profiles, log out rather than closing the tab on a shared computer, and do not allow anyone under 18 to watch a session in progress.
